What does Earth Day 23 mean for you, as a small business owner?
Earth Day is the largest environmental movement in the world – a time where we all come together to seriously consider how we can invest in our planet. This year Earth Day will take place on Saturday 22nd April 2023. Earth Day raises awareness and gives support, where possible, to environmental projects around the world…
“For Earth Day 2023, we need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet.“
Why should I get involved in Earth Day 2023?
Since Earth Day started in 1970, we have witnessed major changes to our environment – now more than ever, it is important to get involved in any way you can! As of March 2021, there is more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere than there ever has been at any point in human history. Average wildlife populations in the last 50 years have fallen by 60% due to climate change and increasingly hostile environments. It is clear that we are in a climate emergency.
As well as benefiting the planet by doing your bit as a small business – getting involved in Earth Day 2023 also has great business benefits as well. Not only will it attract your ideal customers who share your sustainable goals and values, but it will also help to increase brand awareness as well!
Making small changes to be more sustainable can go a long way in attracting ideal clients and customers – did you know that 73% of millennials (possibly the hardest generation to please) said that they would pay more for sustainable products?
How can I get involved in Earth Day 2023 as a small business owner?
As a small business owner, there are plenty of ways to get involved in Earth Day 2023, we at Planner Bee VA Services have mapped out a few of our favourite ways that you can get stuck in, help the planet, and your small business!
1. Sign a petition
Signing a petition or sending a letter to your MP is probably the easiest way to get involved in Earth Day 2023 as a small business owner. You can do it right now, from your sofa, so there really is no excuse for not getting involved!
3 of my favourite Earth Day 2023 petitions:
- Support the Earth Bill – contact your MP.
- Tell businesses to stop deforestation – sign the petition.
- Support the Global Plastics Treaty – sign now.

2. Plant a Forest
Get involved in The Canopy Project and do your bit to fight deforestation by planting a tree from as little as $1. To support Earth Day 2023, you could make a donation to plant a forest as part of The Canopy Project. Alternatively, consider running an ethical promotion whereby, instead of offering a discount, you plant a tree, for every product/ service sold on Earth Day.
3. Spread the word
Share your commitment to the environment, not just on Earth Day, but everyday! Whether you have become an Earth Day member, joined the Great Global Cleanup or are learning more about climate change with an Earth Day quiz, be sure to share your commitment on socials! There is even a social media toolkit as part of the 2023 Earth Day campaign, to make it as easy as possible for you to spread the word.
Want to go a step further for Earth Day 2023?
If you are ready to go a step further for Earth Day 2023, calculate your carbon footprint for your business. Now, more than ever, it is important to know how much energy and resources you are using – how can we be aware of the effect we are having on our planet if we do not check and estimate the impact of our actions?
This Carbon Footprint Calculator can give you an idea of the impact your business is having on our planet and offer suggestions on how to reduce it! You can also take a look at our free Sustainability checklist to find out how else you could be doing your bit to protect the planet, on Earth Day and every day.
Create an eco-working guide for your small business
In addition to calculating your carbon footprint, creating an eco-working guide is another way of getting involved in Earth Day 2023. Creating an eco-working guide can be very beneficial to your brand authenticity as a sustainable small business and is very easy to start!
Setting out your guide can be as simple as pledging to reduce food waste, using eco-friendly materials, going paperless or working with businesses that share your values, such as eco-friendly Virtual Assistant.

No matter how you choose to get involved in Earth Day as a small business owner, every little bit counts! Doing our bit for the planet isn’t just about being more eco-friendly for one day of the year, but getting involved with Earth Day is a great place to start.
